Good things come in small packages! This is the best little book on natural hair care that I have ever read, and believe me I have read quite a few. Most others talk about weave care and perm care, and other products and processes that have no health value at all, but are, in reality, the root cause of hair breakage and other Black hair care problems. This book succintly lists hair care ingredients to avoid and those to incorporate. It explains in plain and simple language why various products are damaging to Black hair and Black health. Websites are also provided for updated information and to further the discussion on health and hair. Kudos to Mirielle! Never before has anyone de-mystified and simplified Black hair care from perspective of health and natural beauty. --amazon.com

A Must Have For All Naturals, By S. D. Bledsoe
A fantastic reference guide to caring for natural hair and full of good advice and natural hair "recipes." I've fallen in love with the recipe for moisturizing spray. It utilizes inexpensive ingredients, (distilled water, vegetable glycerin, and aloe vera juice) but it works much better on my hair than most commercial products.

The book also shows the variety of hair styling options available to naturals; too many of us think we are limited to a TWA or locks.

Finally, it is refreshing to find a book on natural hair care in which the models are truly "natural," and not sporting weaves and/or texturizers. This allowed me to make a realistic assessment of how a finished style will look on my hair. I only wish that I had this book while I was transitioning. --amazon.com

Hair Bible, By L. Penny
I have to say that for someone that didn't have no one to go to about my natural kinks, I was so happy when I recieved this book. I call it my hair bible because I feel like it has given me hope for my hair. I'm still learning what to do with it and how it can be neat and healthy at the same time but this book has definitely help me through my journey. I was natural for 2 yrs when I got this book and I'm so happy I bought it. It was worth my 12 dollars. Every penny :) --amazon.com

Originally published in 1930, this rare book contains very detailed instructions and illustrations for recreating the fantastic long and short hair finger wave styles of the 1920s and 1930s. Finger waving is the shaping of the hair while wet into "s-curved" undulations using your fingers and a comb. You'll learn this technique as well as creating the three types of swirls to use based on the hair type of the wearer. The book begins with demonstrating the finger waving technique using numbered illustrations as well as text descriptions. After learning the technique, the book gives detailed illustrations and instructions for creating the Pompadour Finger Wave, Varsity Bob, French Cocktail Bob, Lorelei Bob, Windblown Bob, Extreme French Swirl, Whoopee Bob, Cincy Bob, Long Bob, Billie Dove Bob, Clara Bow Bob and Push-Up Wave. Sample hairstyles and illustration images are shown at the top of this page.

Editorial Reviews
Originally published in 1947, this rare hairstyling book will teach you how to roll, curl and wave your way to recreating fantastic 1940s hairstyles! The author was a hairdressing expert and designed this book with comprehensive instructions and over 200 demonstrative illustrations of the techniques used to style hair in the 1940s. Considered a textbook for beauty culture schools, practicing hairstylists and the average woman wanting to do her own hairstyling, this book is an informative learning guide. The book covers: BASIC WAVES: shadow, narrow and wide wave; HALF-WAVES: horizontal, diagonal, vertical, and stand-up half-waves; BASIC CURLS: pin, sculpture and overlapping curls; BASIC ROLLS: top reverse, top half-wave reverse, top full wave reverse, side reverse, side half-wave reverse, side full wave reverse and top half-wave forward rolls; POMPADOURS: straight back, full wave and half-wave pompadours; BANGS: fluff, forward roll, half-wave, full wave, french and fringe bangs. The author then takes these curls, rolls and waves and details how to combine them to create more than 25 hairstyles. For those readers wanting technical knowledge, this book covers a bit of hairstyle history, terminology and his method of hairshaping (hair cutting). Six haircuts -- shingle, shingle plus, baby, middy, middy plus and long -- are detailed with both text and illustrations. Another chapter covers the artistic portion of hairstyling, instructing you in obtaining correct balance and using suggested hairstyles to aesthetically fix problems such as a crooked nose, narrow temples, long face, short face, long neck, large ears, etc. Correct hairstyles for oval, round, square, long and heart shaped faces are also provided. Sample hairstyles and illustration images are shown at the top of this page.
